Pompano Beach, FL. (February 5, 2021) – Known for providing medical care, physical therapy, educational programs and social services to vulnerable children living with complex medical issues and other special needs, Broward Children’s Center is celebrating 50 Years of Smiles with a number of events planned throughout the year.

Marge Evans, CEO and founder stated, “We’re always looking for ways to improve the service we provide to the community that lives with special needs.” Ms. Evans started the organization in 1971 as a program to serve children with profound disabilities for up to six hours a day. Out of her desire to give full and complete care to the most vulnerable, Broward Children’s Center now includes a skilled nursing facility, several young adult group homes, pre-school and elementary schools, respite care for weary families plus a therapy program comprising behavioral, physical, occupational and speech therapies. Last year, the organization opened Daisy Village to serve local families with children diagnosed with ASD or other developmental disabilities.

To observe this commemorative year, Broward Children’s Center has announced a 50 Years of Smiles celebration taking place in August with details forthcoming. This event will kick-off the annual Miles for Smiles walkathon to be held on November 6, 2021 at Pompano Community Park. Miles for Smiles typically brings together approximately 500 community supporters, corporations and partners in celebration of children with special needs. The 2020 version of the event was virtual for the safety of the kids and other participants. “We would do anything to see our kids smile and are hopeful that our 50th anniversary year will deliver more smiles than ever,” said Denise Rusnak, Program Director.

Struggling to close a funding gap due to the effects the pandemic has had on those who would typically donate, the Pompano Beach charity is facing a tough year. Additionally, Children’s Comprehensive Care Center, the organization’s skilled nursing facility, is in need of a large sum to fund a critical monitoring system that will give practitioners the ability to respond to medical emergencies quickly and reduce crisis events.

To address these overwhelming financial needs and in observance of 50 Years of Smiles, Broward Children’s Center is seeking kind hearted individuals who will commit to donating $50/month throughout this year. Those who desire to donate, should visit www.BCCkids.org/donate

Broward Children’s Center is a 501 (c)(3) that provides service and care to infants, children, and young adults with special needs. Since 1971, Broward Children’s Center has operated in Pompano Beach, Florida, serving children and their families both locally and throughout the nation.
